Teaching You To Teach

This course is a comprehensive training program on how to teach anything. Following is an example of the course schedule (subject to change based on schedule):

Day 1 – 4-hour Zoom class – subject: what do you want to teach? The first step in becoming an instructor is figuring out what you want to teach. Within this 4-hour class we will define what you want to teach; how you want to teach it (i.e. online Iive, pre-recorded video, live seminar, a combination); the hours needed to teach your subject matter; and the structure of your class. In the final hour, instruction will be given in how to write a curriculum, description, and syllabus. Your homework will be to write a full curriculum, a description for each class within your curriculum, and a syllabus for each class within your curriculum.

Private 1-hour phone or Zoom session #1 – after you have turned in your homework for day 1, I will go over it, and meet with you one-on-one either by phone or Zoom. You and I will discuss your specific project and your homework, honing your vision so you can perfect your curriculum.

Day 2 – 4-hour Zoom class – subject: what will you call your class? Who is your target market? Do you need approvals from organizations or states? Plus, branding and pricing your classes. Within this 4-hour class we will define who your students will be; how they will find you; what they need from you in terms of industry requirements; learning styles and methods of instruction; and how branding and pricing can bring students to you. Your homework will be to write a report that includes the name of your teaching enterprise, the name of your curriculum and each class within the curriculum, the price of each class, what your expenses will be, how many students you need to break even or make a profit, the cost of state and/or national approvals, and the type of instruction you will provide (i.e. lecture, demonstrations, hands-on practice, individual instruction, etc.).

Private 1-hour phone or Zoom session #2 – after you have turned in your homework from day 2, I will go over it, and meet with you one-on-one either by phone or Zoom. You and I will discuss your report and make necessary changes to perfect your plan.

Day 3 – 4-hour Zoom class – subject: time to teach online! In this 4-hour class, we will practice teaching each other…..something. You may choose a portion of your curriculum or a new topic to teach the class by Zoom. You will have 10 minutes to comprehensively teach us about the subject you choose. After your instruction, each student will give one piece of positive or negative feedback. Your homework will be to find a friend/family member/child/spouse/co-worker and teach them a subject of your choice for 15 minutes. I will provide you with an evaluation form that your student will fill out and you will email to me.

Private 1-hour phone or Zoom session #3 – after I receive the evaluation form from your student and go over it, we will meet by phone or Zoom to go over your experience teaching in the day 3 Zoom class and one-on-one with your student, as well as the feedback you received. Through this we will enhance your teaching skills.

Day 4 – 12-hour in person, live class – subject: time to teach live! We will begin this live class with me teaching you something. Then each student will teach the class 30 minutes. Evaluations will be done at the end of each teaching section and gone over at the end of the class. In our final hour, you will be able to ask any final questions you have.

Private 1-hour phone or Zoom session #4 – this is our final one-on-one meeting. This meeting can be scheduled whenever you feel you need it. If you need help with your state or national paperwork, I will help. If you teach your first class and need to go over your evaluations, that is when we will have our meeting. If you are struggling with marketing and need advice, I am happy to guide you through marketing. Whenever you need this meeting, we can schedule it.
